What makes the iHeLP Program special?

iHeLP is an innovative, evidence-based psychological treatment for improving cardiovascular and mental health among smokers. The online iHeLP program contains interactive components, including video demonstrations, voiceovers and in-session exercises. It will give you tips for reducing cigarette consumption and for improving diet and physical activity. This treatment program covers the relationship between smoking and depression and aims to teach you to cope with your desire to smoke, how to recognise and avoid high-risk situations for smoking, and how to plan alternative ways of coping with those situations where you usually smoke. In addition, the treatment program hopes to encourage an improvement in your diet and nutrition and to encourage a healthy level of physical activity. There are four treatment modules that you can work through at your own pace.

After you click to open iHeLP you will be redirected to a message advising that you will receive an email with iHeLP login details. An email will be sent to the email account that you registered for eCliPSE with from “CCBT-Health Care”. If the message doesn’t arrive in your inbox within a few minutes please check your junk mail folder.

The email you receive will look something like this and will include your iHeLP password and user name. Note that this user name is different from your eCliPSE one so write it down and keep it in a safe place.

When you click through to the CCBT login page you will see a space to enter the username and password that you’ve been sent.

From the iHeLP (also called the Healthy Lifestyles Program) Resource Room landing page you can access four modules. The first is Setting the Scene and it is important to do this module before you do any of the others.

On this page there are also Activity Boxes which are unlocked as you work your way through the content, and at the very bottom there are worksheets and other Downloads that you can print and keep. The Activity Boxes and Downloads vary for each of the four modules.

After completing Setting the Scene, you can choose which module to do next out of Smoking, Getting Active or Eating Well. You will be able to come back to any of these modules as often as you like. After content has been unlocked, you can access it as long as you continue to use iHeLP.

A note on Homework

The iHeLP online program is based largely on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT); a treatment that includes many take-home activities (or “homework) to complete in between sessions. The iHeLP program will assign several monitoring and other worksheets as homework to go along with each session. These worksheets are intended to help you take the lessons learned during an iHeLP session and put it into practice in your everyday life.

Homework is not intended to be too much of a burden, although you may disagree!! Not every homework worksheet set by the iHeLP program must be taken home and completed.  If it feels too overwhelming, you can choose which homework tasks are most important to you, and if need be, select one or two key activities to work on in between sessions.  It is intended that, once these homework activities become habit, there will be no need for formally completing these worksheets.

We wish you all the best with the iHeLP program, and the goals you set for yourself at this stage of your life.

Thank you for giving iHeLP a try.
